Chris & me celebrating an epic day at the Philly Tri Club tailgate |
Sunday, May 6, 2012
marked the 33rd running of the Broad Street
10-miler, truly a Philadelphia
celebration! Not having done this race
in a few years, I was excited to jump back into this event with Chris, fellow
Wissahickon Wanderers, Philly Tri Club people and so many other friends from
our amazingly vast running community.
Race day morning was an overcast, in the 50’s start, so perfect for a
zippy 10-mile jaunt. Chris and I were up
so early (5-something?!), that we got an actual seat on the subway and enjoyed
a little nap on the ride to the start line!
After greeting several friends in the “red” corral, we were off on this
slightly downhill, straight-shot course (it’s on one street, so you can’t get
lost…hopefully!) with a nice tailwind pushing us along. The bands, drum lines and cheering crowds
really helped the miles click by fast.
Thanks, Philly for the amazing support!
I finished with a PR time of 1:05:14, good enough for 4th in my age group, 59th
female and 526th overall (out of over 34,000 finishers)! Chris nailed a 1:03:06 PR, finishing 34th
in his age group, 293rd male and 328 overall! An epic day indeed, but the best part was yet
to come…the post-race tailgating! We
started at the PTC tent with our celebratory
beers and some wonderful catered food, then made our way down to circulate
amongst the running club tailgate tents to congratulate several friends (our
“running family!”). Congrats to all who
ran and thank you to the spectacular volunteers for making this a one-of-a-kind
event!
